The real reason for selling Wickham was his number. The club convinced a world class player (he'll be revealed soon) to sign by promising him the famous number 10 shirt. Then Wickham was informed about having to give up the iconic shirt, so of course he was furious and declared he won't play for Sunderland again if they take his beloved shirt. There wasn't anything we could do, there can be only one iconic number 10 shirt at the club.
