Styx for starters
Just about all of them. I'm waiting for a summer festival of Boston, Kansas, Journey, Foreigner, Styx, Rush, REO Speedwagon, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton and Peter Cetera. I volunteer to do a Guy Fawkes and dynamite the lot of them for the goodness of mankind.

I'll give you a hand mate, apart from rap/hip-hop this must be my least favourite music genre.
Who's slagging Rush off like get out, get out now!
Rush are not AOR. Neither are Uriah Heep.
Everything mentioned so far, plus probably everything yet to be mentioned in this genre.

I don't mind a bit of Journey and Foreigner, but Styx and REO Speedwagon are pretty dreadful like. Hold The Line's a good record but Toto are pretty fucking awful besides that.
Boston set the ball rolling with there uber polished debut album. I like More Than A Feeling and Smokin' is a good record as well, but the rest of the album is awful.
Have to say i liked Equinox, The grand illusion, and Crystal Ball by styx, when i was younger.
Most mentioned here, although I dont hate them, just dont have time for them
lighten up fellas. Unless you listen to AOR stations in the USA you will never hear them.
They were NEVER big in the UK and hardly bothered the charts. very much a yankee genre.
I don't mind the occasional soft rock anthem
Count me in
Aye, most of the band's mentioned have been good for at least one canny song. Even Styx had the wonderfully ludicrous Domo arigato Mr Roboto.
Dinnar what AOR is. Never understood why there has to be so many sub-genres.
Absolutely dreadful. I include Rush as they embody the problem I have with the whole genre, that being an undoubtedly high level of musicianship but soul-less wet results and some cringeworthy lyrics. Also there's no way any of you drippy proggie bastards can defend the bloke's singing like a strangled parrot.
Like Harry says though, we were spared a lot of this growing up as it didn't survive the distance across the Atlantic too well. I was shocked when I came over here to find kids who otherwise seemed cool but had a lot of this insipid bollocks tucked away in their music collections.
there is a lot of hate about. these bands are providing music that many punters want and an air of superiority for arseholes who think they are cool.
it never caught on over here. REO had a couple of hits and the rest hardly ever worried the charts. Very much a minor genre over here. however, they are constantly played on radio over in The States. EVERYDAY when in the car i must have heard Boston at least three times and they only had two albums about 35 years ago
Separate names with a comma.
