Default For those who prefered M Hughes instead of O'Neill

... what was the main reason? There was a point actually when Bruce was going and these two were mentioned - I do admit it - that Hughes probably edged it for me.

The only reason was because I thought he'd put together a better squad and more willing to go outside of the English league system, which I personally think is key to assembling the best possible squad.

When we got Martin though I was very happy and still am, but I do think we'd have a few cool names in by now had Mark Hughes been manager...

Still plenty of time to get players in and in Martin we've most likely have the better motivator of the two. This isn't getting on O'Neill's back at all as that'd be beyond stupid; just wondering how many prefered Hughes at the time and if so - why?

I expect a few 'dear me' and the such from those who don't want to understand my simple question or find the timing of the question... 'inappropriate' ......

And no, I wouldn't have Hughes before O'Neill today.

I just thought O'Neill's best days were behind him.

That said, I wasn't disappointed with his appointment.

My reason for preferring Hughes at the time was down to, I believe, Hughes making better signings than O'Neill who I believe wastes a lot of money. Thats yet to be seen though, I think the wait for players means its more likely he wont be paying silly prices however

I honestly though o neill had been out of the game for too long and questioned his desire and motivation to get back into the game given the awful illness his wife had i.e. did he need it, thought that Hughes had a point to prove and would prove to be a good appointment.

Despite QPR spending left, right and centre I'm happier with O'Neill as I now question Hughes ability to mould a team, he can certainly buy a lot of players but can he make them into a unit......not sure.

I really like Hughes as a player but as a manager he doesn't sound very interesting, same as Pearce really.

When O'Neill speaks i really listen, as he seems to know what he's talking about and you can see the passion he has.Always liked him and over the moon we have him

I believe anyone who believes the manager solely controls the financial side in transfer deals is incredibly naive. In the past, he's speculated with the money, but also accumulated. Villa were close to breaking top 4 imo.
