However, the FA are utterly powerless in this. The Premier League will carry in its own sweet greedy way. The only way change will ever be effected is when the public abandon the game. Empty grounds and no atmosphere would be the ultimate wake up call.
Aye, it's not the FA but the Premier League who are to blame. Not so much empty grounds but cancelled Sky subscriptions will bring about change.

Next time a manager complains his players are 'tired' after 2 games in a week, show them the footage of Jonathan Brownlee collapsing after finishing the triathlon.

It would make no difference. For several reasons.

    1. No money was involved. Therefore they would not be able to understand the significance.

    2. We are apparrently so stupid or uninformed that we just do not understand the stress (physical and mental) that the poor darlings live under.

    3. This season we will carry on paying money to watch them.

    4. Dives? What dives? Apparrently it is because of the speed the game is played at (cue Brownlea?).

    5. Referees sometimes make unfair decisions. So it is reasonable to shriek at them, crowd them, bully them and ignore their decisions. Again, we simply do not understand.

It is all rather depressing when some who are old enough remember local players playing with pride for their local team rather than for the money. The game is now driven by money and players move to the club willing to pay stupid amounts of money which most of us dream of on lottery nights. Take QPR - no way are these players moving for footballing reasons, just money. How Sinclair can think of moving to Man City for anything but money as he knows he will be keeping the subs bench warm - it goes on and on. And yes I will be there again with my season ticket like the sheep I am, believing we will win again

While the fans continue to bankroll their cash juggernaught they won't give a flying fuck.

I held a season ticket for 8 years but gave it up last year due to not been able to afford it. I watched Sunderland a couples of times on cheap seats days, but also watched Gateshead a few times and the same as everyone else on here I have watched the Olympics. I now in all honesty cant see me going back to watch premiership football again. I love the crowd, I love the banter with away fans, I love travelling to new grounds, but it just sticks in my throat that I pay so much for these players to do so little. I will always follow Sunderland as its who I am, I just wont be giving any money to them anymore.

Unfortunately money changes everything. If all the other athletes were on the same money as footballers then I don't think they'd remain the bastions of virtue they're perceived to be for very long either. In fact, I think you may see a few examples of those who've done so well at the Olympics struggle with their new found celebrity and exposure and disappear up their own arses.
