Default FA learn lesson from Olympics? ...

    Quote:
FA Chairman: "After the incredible high performance and sporting spirit we have seen at the Olympic Games, players must recognise that with the privilege of playing comes the responsibility for managing themselves and their behaviours in a similar way...

As we begin the season with Community Shield today, is important players embrace what we have seen over the past 2 weeks and maintain it.”
will anything change? Plenty of comments on here (and other places) about coming to realise the difference in attitudes between footballers and other athletes.

This crossed my mind. The footballers haven't really acted any differently. It was the other sports, as per usual, leading by example.

Best thing I noticed, athletes mixing in with the members of the public.

The fact that a lot of these athletes get up to start at 5.30 in the morning and then work right through. Or because they have a normal job and need to get in their training before. When footballers do 9-lunchtime

Or the fact that the World Record breaking cyclists were stopped from going to a Rhianna concert for one night 9 MONTHS ago to keep their focus. When footballers will go on the piss a day or two before a major game??

Real athletes are on another level completely in terms of committment. Love to see a football club that instilled a similar work ethic from their youths onwards. Perhaps they could achieve something immense?

So long as we pay the gate money and they draw £100k + a week nothing will ever change. Most of them never win a single thing and still get rewarded.

I'd luv an olympic backlash me, luv it!

    Totally agree.
The thought of nine months of cheating, diving, fake injuries, screaming at referees, scandal, incessant garbage on TV, radio and the press, lionising of nonentities of limited talent who only seem interested in planning their next roasting session, is utterly nauseating.

However, the FA are utterly powerless in this. The Premier League will carry in its own sweet greedy way. The only way change will ever be effected is when the public abandon the game. Empty grounds and no atmosphere would be the ultimate wake up call.
