Default Was the lad really this bad?

possibly but i always liked him and i know he's still got a softspot for us. This is from the bairns 2006 Shoot annual:

    One to forget...
    Thomas Hauser (1988-1992)
The Sunderland faithful reckon the German target man had the heading and dribbling abilities of an elephant. The former FC Basel player even threatened to sue the club at one stage because he alleged they didn't give him the proper treatment for an injury. Left Wearside after 59 games and nine goals for the delights of Canbuur in the lower reaches of the Dutch leagues.

He was the first German to score in the English top division (against Leeds I think)

Definitely the 1st German to score in English top flight football. Against Southampton at The Dell in 1991. We were regated shortly after.

Absolutely loves SAFC and retains a keen interest on his facebook account too. Seems to be a genuinely nice fella but having watched almost all of his games I have to say he wasn't the best I've ever seen but not as bad as that report suggests he was.

This... Hauser's problem was he only really got a game when Gates or Gabbiadini were injured. Obviously Gabbers was a lot better and we always looked a worse side when he played.

Kind of like when Dichio used to deputise for Quinn.

Aye he is my mate on FB and he posts regularly about SAFC with his old photos, and new ones in the strip.

He had a thread on yesterday asking "what is this Fletcher like" - started a RTG style debate off

I agree with this - apart from the bit that implies he wasn't utterly shite (he most certainly was!)
