Exclamation Getting custody of a child family member?

Put aside whatever you think of me for the sake of a kid I care a lot about.

I have a member of my family who is eight years old and neglected to the point where I know for a fact their mother would wash his hands of them in a heartbeat.

There is no need for me to air what has happened on here but I want to give the kid a home but have not a fucking clue how to approach this at all.

The bairn is passed to whoever will have him and his mother hasn't seen them in nearly two weeks.

If anyone has ever had any experience of this sort of thing or ideally works in some kind of social service drop me a pm please.

I know I act the arse on here but today I have learned that she now has been reported to social services (rightly) and there is fucking no chance he is leaving his family.

    Cheers.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs, most likely social services I guess, but I do hope it gets sorted fella.

I was abused as a child, and all I wanted was to escape. I didn't have someone willing to do what you are trying to. Good for you lad.

Childrens Services will do all they can to keep the child within the family unit as no matter how bad the kid is being treated they will be worse off in the care system. Taking Kids into Care is seen as an absolute last resort.
If the case has been reported to Childrens Services make contact and make them aware that you would be willing to help out then leave it to them to sort

My neighbour did it when his nieces mam died, brought her up from around 10 I think it was.

I don't know the exact in and outs but I'm pretty sure you can foster them.

Her side of the family couldn't give a fuck and live on the other side of the country.

She's got nobody. My side of the family would but can't other than me and will all advise them I am great for the bairn and his mother would as well.

I don't see anyone having any person seeing my and my wife as being the best option.

Ask a solicitor who specialises in family law and contact your local Social Services.

If, as you say, you're the obvious choice for this bairn, and nobody (mam included) would object, it should be a formality.
