Makin v Bardsley - Makin. No more needs to be said.

Butler v O'Shea - O'Shea. End of.

Bould v Brown - Another tough one but Bould's experience and leadership was vital to us that year. Brown could probably do the same, it remains to be seen. Bould.

Gray v Richardson. Richardson may well be the replacement for Gray. Close one, Gray.

Summerbee v Larsson. Very similar but I think Larsson has a touch more to his game. S

Rae v Cattermole. Loved Rae and Cattermole is the closest we've come to replacing him. On his day, Cattetmole is one of the best in the league in his role. Catts.

McCann v Colback. I think Colback can become an England regular, Gav was a decent player. Colback.

Schwarz v McClean. Both very good players but McClean's potential is frightening. JMcC.

Quinn v Wickham. I think Wickham will go on to become a big player for us but we can't argue any way to leave SNQ out. SNQ.

Phillips v Campbell. How many goals? SKP.

Realise I've left Sees out but I was going along the lines of 442 and similar players.

Considering that was a squad which finished 7th in the premier league. How well do you think it would do now and how much have we improved squad wise since then?

I still think that squad would do quite well IMO.

For my generation simply the best team we have seen in our lifetime. That team (and the one the year after) beat the mags at SJP, finished 7th in the premier league twice, and were second in the league come February the next year, the 1-0 home defeat to Man United had a major impact on us and if it weren't for losing that game we could have really progressed. No contest between 99-01 and the current team.

League is so different to what it was then and its only a decade ago, scary the changes that have happened already in so little time.

We haven't taken a backwards step since then, we have improved as a club on a whole, the partnerships & investment the club has now with different firms (Adidas, Tullow, Kitbag, StubHub, Aqueduct) internationally, and also people like Short and Milliband running the scenes is something we could only dream of back then.

We took another backwards step on the field however in the last 2 years when we went from a strikeforce of Bent, Gyan & Welbeck to Ji, Wickham & Campbell.
