Default 30 somethings - if you were introduced to the game now rather than the mid 80s.

Would you love or hate the game more?

Looking forward to taking the bairns to the first game and hopefully the amazement on their face to see nearly 40,000 in the Sol.

Its light years from paying 3 quid to go into the Fulwell.

However as each season passes I find myself loving the club/sport less and less.

Yes, we were shit in the main during my time at Roker but you`d hear tales of players having a few jars with fans, most were on a modest wage and drove Town Centre Citroen

Now the kernts live in the ivory towers, never socialise with us peasants, earn millions and jump ship at the drop of a hat. And if were brutally honest, most are mediocre at best.

Not sure Id be so hooked as a bairn now as opposed to my own early years.

Its more glamorous now, easier to become hooked for the young'uns.

My 10 year old lad is football daft, more so than I was.

Perhaps, i guess the exposure is more so its easier for them to gain/retain an interest. My 5 year old is obsessed, begging me for a kick about in the gardin in the pissing down rain every night (love it).

I think Rocky is right, although I share your sentiments. Its the whole merchandising and the TV coverage. When I was a young un you were lucky to see the goals on Tyne Tees ( thanks Murray) but the kids these days have so much access to football, they want the latest pink boots or the latest Beckham barnet. When I was a bairn I was hardly dying to get a mullet and wear me shorts like John Macphail. Then there is the computer games, the young uns can do all the tricks like the players they control. It's unreal, so if I was a bairn again, I would be hooked.

They'd love it because it would be the only football they know.

This. It's the game people fall in love with. Pros and cons from every era I'm sure but kids will always get hooked on football.

I took my lad to an Aldershot game once (visiting my soldier brother-in-law) and we stood on the terrace behind the goal. The little mincer whinged the whole game
    "me legs are hurting"
"rubbish this*, I wana sit down"

Totally different to what I loved as a kid, I hated sitting.

*He was right like, it was fucking shite. Fair play to the fans who watch that every week. Aldershot 1-1 Notts Cty. Kasper Schmeichal in goal for County

I guess us and our fathas are the most cynical group of fans as weve seen the sport transformed into a plaything for millionaires paying millions to fannies that roll around at the slightest bit contact.

As you say, anyone born post Sky know no different.

Pleased Ive seen the Roker days like. Remember the buzz when we got back into the top flight in 90 and the World Cup stars came to town, beat Man utd and got a 0 0 v Spurs. Mental atmospheres.

    This.

I'm in my twenties and can barely remember anything prior to the Premier League and Sky Football (such as it is).

Sport, like everything else, evolves. I'm sure your grandad thought football in the 1970s and 1980s was an abominable bastardisation of the sport he knew and loved.

And I'm sure in twenty or thirty years time, I'll be moaning about the state of game/waxing lyrical about how it used to be in my day.

Roker was great on big games, excellent atmosphere, however it was extremely poor at times as well.

Chelsea in the cup in 92 is one of the best nights I've ever had supporting Sunderland.
