Re: Rescue Dogs...
We have three rescue dogs at the moment , and have fostered numerous dogs over the last few years.
We've had no bother at all , having em in our home - but Hauser's-Helmet does have a point , some dogs aren't suitable to live with kids.

No way I would be bringing a unwanted stray dog into my home with kids.

Got to say that think you are onto something here. Would never leave a dog with kids but my Sam is as gentle as owt with mine. He hates everyone else but loves the family

One of mine did that for weeks when I moved them over here.

Re: Rescue Dogs...
This is meant to be tagged onto my previous post, missed the Edit.
The old 'you don't know their background' argument no doubt. Well you don't necessarily know the background of pedigree dogs either. You may have a piece of paper with it's lineage on but it doesn't tell you the dog's temperament, level of socialisation or what the parents are actually like. Of course you can see the parents at the breeder but even that's not infallible. I have one pedigree and two rescues and they're all lovely in different ways (and pests in different ways too) and I am part of an association here in France that aids with the rehoming of abandoned dogs and believe me the problem here is huge but there are some wonderful, affectionate and loving dogs in refuges that are there through no fault of their own. Don't dismiss them out of hand, rescues, more often than not make wonderful pets.
And if you're leaving children alone with any dog in a situation where they might have their faces ripped off I would suggest that you are an unfit person to have either children or dogs.

Re: Rescue Dogs...
Me nannas is a rescue dog, a Border Collie bitch found tied next to a motorway in the Darlington area.
Can't stand the fucker. You'll walk in and it won't just greet you, it'll sprint over and jump a few feet in the air and scratch you and won't stop for a good five minutes. It's horrible with unusual people coming into the house, won't do a thing you ask it to.
And it cowers at just about anything, if you pick a newspaper up, put a coat on, flash a torch etc. It also randomly does it even if everyones just sat down watching the telly.
To conclude, a shite dog.

Thing is, that gave the little critter a network of runs under the kitchen units. Had visions of it being a saga, but greed got the better of him

Charley was a stray and unwanted, he was a bag of nerves when he came to me, he'd been savaged by two Alsations and is till wary of other dogs.
He loves people but he hates me leaving him.
