a players transfer fee is simply down to how much a club values a player, which often means fuck all.

Are you saying a players value goes up because they're showing "little signs of improvement"?

He's improved so little that he's now playing for the league champions.

sometimes yes, sometimes no. often it can depend on how much a particular club want a particular player. there could also be a case where a player plays shite at a club but another club see how the player bein used differently to fit their style more. so they will spray the cash despite the fact he doesnt seem to be owt flash. another factor is how much a club wants to force another clubs hand. what im sayin is transfer fees often mean nowt.

'Improvement'? Based on what I saw of him before his transfer to Liverpool there was little to base an objective opinion on. But to equate a transfer fee with a players ability in order to prove a point seems like a very high risk strategy. Had/has Wickham shown quantifiable improvement to justify £8m? Flo? Henderson? Or further afield - Berbatov? Schevchenko?

Its absolute bollocks to say he's shown "little improvement".

Transfer fee's are over inflated however if he'd shown little improvement his transfer fees wouldn't be as high as they are.

Of course Carroll showed improvement, he went from a Championship centre forward to scoring goals in the top flight. Wickhams is a one off move he's obvioulsy shown improvemnet in his game to attract a fee of £8mil+, Milner has moved 3 times each time for an increased transfer fee. That doesn't happen if he's showing little improvement from his time at Leeds.

Did he? Perhaps he always was a 'top flight' goalscorer who just happened to be playing in the Championship because that's where his club found themselves. Did the West Ham players who found themselves in the Championship this season suddenly become 'worse' players?

Out of interest - what would you say Milner is worth? Realistically.

For all those young aspiring footballers out there that are basically not very good, this lad is a source of inspiration. If he can make it anyone can....

I thought he played ok last night and was unlucky to be substitued. I would have preferred Young to have been taken off. Milner is not a great player but he's certainly not shit. I'd prefer us to play a system where the wingers have more freedom and less defensive responsibility.

I'd love us to sign him and play him middle of midfield.
