    Default Wickham next season

Personnally I am really looking forward to seeing how he does.

I know a lot of people on here have written him off and said he will never be a player but he definitely has raw talent about him and with O'Neill and his backroom team we have a great set up to bring him on. Really think with some bulking up, a full summer of quality training behind him and some excellent man management fron O'Neill he will look a different prospect.

Incidentally I think people forget just how young he is. Andy Carroll is still being talked about as 'potential' and is a whole 4 years older then Wickham. There is a similar gap upwards from Carroll to Bent for fucks sake to put it in perspective

Coming up to the end of next season even he will still be only 19 and with management could still easily kick on to be a top striker.

I haven't written him off, I just wonder at Bruce's logic at paying 8 or 10 mill for a player who wasn't going to feature that much last season. Even with Ellis bank rolling us we don't have that type of financial clout, Plus he's on a 3 year contract, if he doesn't push on this season we'll have to peddle him, and I doubt we'll get half back on what we paid for him.

Agree he has raw talent but I'd like us to sign 2 top-class strikers and for him to go out on loan. He won't be ready for next season.

I just don't like when I read at Ipswich he 'fell out of love' with the game.
Just hope that won't happen to him again.

I think he has the ability but sometimes he can look a bit Kenwyne Jones like

i haven't written him off but i'm very concerned about the timeline to his arrival as a good forward. i personally think that if he does turn into a great striker somewhere down the line we will not get the benefits at sunderland.

i know someone mentioned because his contract expires before he's 23 any fee would be set by a tribunal. assuming another club actually want to buy him in 3 years time i just can't see us doing well out of this one. if we come anywhere close to breaking even i'll be amazed.

Didnt realise he was only on a 3 year contract like, thats shocking if he goes for nowt or next to nowt in 2 years.

Hope he figures heavily next season and does well for us. Would be happy if he played 20 full games and maybe another 10 as sub getting 10-15 goals.
