    Default Roman ford over the Wear....
    Heard a rumour that the Romans built a ford somewhere over the River Wear using some big F*ck off carved stones and that Sunderland Council (The Victorians to be fair) pulled them up....

    Apparently they are resting somewhere down the sea front (Roker I think)...

    Anyone else heard this....?

    Yes I think it was in the Ford area of Sunderland.

    i hear there was a ford up Claxeugh way that was Roman in origin but nowt else...

    supposed to be the vaux site. seems quite unlikely though since there are other forts nearby
