Definitely this. At the stage we're at now I'd much rather see a flair name like Del Piero signing than another no-mark workhorse.

Fuck rationality and common sense, this is Del Piero we're talking about man!

And yet most scousers wanted him to stay.
He was actually VERY good if you look at his stats, had the most assists per minute in the league or something.

Even if he isn't good enough it'll give us a massive boost and will bring in crowds as he is one of the biggest names in the past 20 years.

Makes sense commercially and would probably add something to us too.
    Don't think so

fair enough, still stand by my del piero view like, everyone would like asimilar sort of impact henrik larsson had at man u but he won't be anywhere near that now

I know it seems shocking, but it's one of those bizarre choices by the reds..bit like not playing Maxi despite him scoring all the time.

I honestly don't know what i think about a signing like Del Piero. I mean, aye, big name...but did that actually do owt for bolton when fat sam was signing pensioners left right and centre?

AH, just answered my own question, he'll be off to West Ham!

I've tried to get my head round the maxi thing aswell, they're an odd club like. Clamouring for rafa back when he did his best to ship out Alonso for Barry only to then sign a player who wasn't a replacement

best big sam signings were ocha and anelka, anything like that I wouldn't sniff at

He'd be a massive talking point from all media outlets and would add to the crowd because of who he is.

He'd have people talking about Sunderland and in a good light, if successful here he could potentially open a new door for sponsoships in Italy.

He is one of the most famous names in Italy and has the accolades to back it up, for me it would be a good signing both on and off the pitch.
