The advertising of events that have been on in the past has been shite mind. Unless you are a student or a facebell then there's a good chance you won't hear about it.

Sadly, ive done all those days many a time up at the cluny and other venues across north east. Thing is, you just have to look at some venues in durham who used to do it for years through 90's and 00's. Even played most of them myself, but they are struggling now. What used to be a great venue in boro called the crown i believe used to struggle. not sure on how its doing now.

PLANS are under way to transform the city’s derelict fire station into a multimillion-pound arts venue in the heart of Sunderland.

Although the proposal is in its infancy, the new centre would provide a much-needed new music stage on Wearside.

Support is already growing for the plans among those trying to boost the city’s burgeoning culture scene.

City businessman Chris Johnson is part of a consortium of business and music figures who are currently working together on the scheme.

He confirmed the plan was under consideration and the group had made a provisional approach to discuss the proposals with Sunderland City Council, which owns the site in High Street West, close to the Empire.

But Mr Johnson was at pains to emphasise the project was very much in its early stages and there was still a lot of work to do before concrete proposals were in place.

“We are still at a very early stage in the process,” he said. “There are still a million and one hurdles to overcome before we can really start to talk about any sort of time scale.”

The group had approached several figures in Sunderland’s thriving music scene to test the water.

“All we are looking to do is gauge how much interest there is in the proposal,” said Mr Johnson.

“We are in very provisional talks with the city council. There are still a lot of things to be talked about.”

Great plan, great building

Just dunno if the ecomony is in the position to support it

Dave Harper, drummer with Sunderland band Frankie & the Heartstrings, said: “To have something like this in the city centre, in any town centre, is completely essential.

“If the council are going to do what they say they are going to do with music in the city then this needs to be an O2 Academy-style venue, not another faceless restaurant.”

Just walked past it on Sunday pre-match when dragging 2 pals up to the Isis for their first time to it and we said it was a shame the building was not in use.
Really hope it happens.
