Re: Champagne Bay, Vanuatu
Vanuatu is one of the few places round there I haven't been to. What's it like?

Ship goes to Port Vila quite often and it is a shithole. Wala and Champagne Bay are decent. Flying from Vila to Sydney tomorrow, not looking forward to that airport!

I quite like Sydney airport, probably only second to Schiphol in ease of use.

What's wrong with Sydney like? I've never had a problem with the place. Subway station with frequent connections to the city, easy flight connections, fast immigration, fast security, fast baggage collection, everything you could want from an airport surely? The place always seems half empty as well so there is loads of room. Miles better than Heathrow, or the hell of LAX or JFK.

it's very expensive, even the train links to the city are expensive compared to other fares around the city (it's privately owned). the airport is also privately owned by Macquarie bank which is a money making machine. it's the most expensive airport in australia (parking, concession leases, 'taxes'). you can also stand in the taxi queue for ages, especially during morning\afternoon peak hours as it's rammed and you can end up sharing due to demand.
the one thing it really has going for it is its' proximity to the city but it's also a major drawback as there's a flight curfew due to noise (11pm - 6am) and there's few landing slots left available meaning airlines will have to land elsewhere in Oz (international).
they've been talking about building a second airport outside the city but it's a political football, no one can decide where as it's going to lose either state or federal parties seats in parliament. they're even talking about having it in canberra, which is a 4 hour drive away
