look Keo for me...got them on each bike me and the wife have.

Suppose it depends how much float you want. I use the Red Keo cleats( 9% I think)
Whereas don't think the Ultegra cleats have that option

Ultegras for me, I couldn't advise on what they're like 'cos I've never tried them or any other road pedal It was them or the Speedplays.

Look nice in a bag mind.

Na, still waiting ... tell you what, if I hadn't paid up front and bought all the ancilliary stuff I would have fucked it off by now (like I did last year) and booked a holiday

Still, it'll be canny when it arrives and the weather should be much better. I look forward to getting out and sticking some miles in.

Are Shimano road pedals as reliable as the MTB pedals?

Off through Evans in a bit (to get my Garmin) so tempted to pick some up. As well as these - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/...-shoe-ec029811

Aye, up my street and turn left.

It's too early for me to commit to doing that (did I mention I haven't got a bike yet? I did? oh!) ... I'll be riding most of those roads on my road acclimitisation though, so maybe something later in the year. Still to sign up to the Cyclone and I fancy a crack at the Kielder run-bike-run (mtb for that though).

I looked at them when I was in the other week, and in my opinion they're not a patch on the Specialized BG Comp I posted earlier.

Used to be right into my cycling in the 90's culminating in riding in the Prutour in 97 then fell totally out of love with it and other distractions such as work and women getting in the way. Had a dabble last year on a knackered old bike I got given by an old friend but it's sewn the seed again. Went and bought a new bike yesterday (just a modest Voodoo Hybrid - best I could find in Hartlepool) and I'll be picking it up later in the week.

When I started getting back into it last year I was only doing 10, 15 and 20 mile loops of the town but Hartlepool traffic is a nightmare (I'm sure they have never heard of the Highway Code). Can anyone recommend any similar distance routes out of Hartlepool that are a bit less busy? i don't mind a climb! One thing you realise when you move away from Sunderland is how lucky we are/were to have such mixed terrain in the city and quieter country roads within easy reach! Also more noticable just how much busier all of our roads have gotten since the 90's.

that is a MASSIVE course. blimey. checking out the possibility of a london-paris via dieppe. possible in 2 days without too much bother.

i'm nervous about sportives as i don't want to be like a fish out of water with much more experienced guys.

I thnk that too ... but if you look at the photos from a lot of them there's a fair bit of timber being lugged around

I'll be playing cricket in the Summer which rules out entering them ... phew!
