    Default Excellent but cheap guitars

Legacy Guitars ... Anyone ever heard of them/owned one? I took a punt on one last week for £150, a black les paul copy, looks very similar to my Epiphone Les Paul custom. Soundwise, however, it just blows it out of the water. It feels so much better as well, build quality is superior and it stays in tune no matter how much I bend it.

Its made me think, what other "unfashionable" guitar names are out there that I should look out for?

I got an acoustic by Vintage for about that price and it's really good for the price especially in terms of 'playability'. They do copies of just about every major design.

I've got a mate at work who has made it his life's work to track down low price gems. He's got a house full of them. I'll talk to him tomorrow and he'll have some great tips for sure. My own personal experience of it isn't that good tbh. My main guitar is a 1978/79 USA strat that I've had since about 1980. I guess that's my benchmark. Lower price guitars that I've own/owned or tried just feel a whole lot different. Even the Squire's (of which I have one) just lack something, especially the neck. I've got a 'Vintage' SG, which again just feels lacking in quality somehow, but, then again, I've never played a Gibson one. I can't grumble though, I only paid £40 for it

The first epiphone les paul I owned, I was at the Bunker with me old band, halfway through a song, the top strap button ripped out, and took quite a large chunk of wood out with it. The second I owned had three ill-fitting frets and the beading was very poorly finished, and it had a wonky neck pickup. I recently owned a Sheraton, again wonky pickups, loose bridge and dodgy tuners.

Of the 4 epiphones I've owned, all had ill-fitting truss-rod covers and very unreliable pickup selector switches. The only things I've changed on this Legacy Les Paul are the knobs as they were shit flimsy plastic ones.

Hillbilly Black Cat helped in the design of the Peavey Rockingham semi acoustic guitar according to Wiki. Nice looking guitar.

I bought an Epiphone SG for £80 as a spare, and it sounds better than my much more expensive guitars. I've even started using it live recently.

I borrowed an Epiphone Les Paul from a friend a few years ago. I don't remember any particularly bad quality issues with it, far from it, but what did stick in my mind about it was it's weight. My owld strat is a ton weight but that guitar was heavier. A sitting down guitar
