We've been living on the edge since WW11, the difference now is, the family silver was sold off years ago and we have nothing left to sell to keep us afloat, it looks like a very bleak future ahead.

I don't know what the answer is, but from it's inception in Tolpuddle in the 1830s the Labour movement was created to protect the british working class and it's created the welfare state that we all enjoy today.
The party has been hijacked by a bunch of pseudo middle class tossers who view politics as a vocation as opposed to an obligation and are more interested in fiddling expenses than protecting the interests of their constituents.

The people in charge of the western economy's are the same people that were in charge before WW1 "the Federal reserve" nothings changed, they are just calling in what they're owed.
