The political aspect of Scotlads relationship with the NE which the article didn't pick up on is if Scotland goes alone, Labour are finished. Which for forseeable generations means the NE will continue to to be out on its own.

then again you coudl argue that since scotland will no longer be gettign extra cash through the Barnett formual extra money could be available for the regions.
