Re: Crawling out of the woodwork
It's just an easy (and somewhat lazy) generalisation to make of a team/team's fans when they are doing better at a given period of time.

How can you possible know that? I'm a season ticket holder, have been for 15 years, if you see someone "turn" or "put pressure on the team", how do you know they are big game only fans? Do you conduct a survey?
Not taking the piss, you've got me stumped mate.

Since the move to the SoL, there has been constant wingeing about crowd size and leaving early. I can get into the excitement of Nathan Gunn's attendance predictions coz I love to see sell-outs and it's a little bit of fun before the match. But this self-righteous, priggish attitude on here from kids (not you) slagging off people who don't attend crosses the line and becomes insulting.
These same daft knackers are the first to complain if a manager criticises the fans, but feel free to be able to do the same ? FFS grow up and develop some tolerance for your fellow fans. I've been where you are, all new out of school and keen to be at every match and spend all my money of supporting the lads. It's like aright of passage, everyone''s been through it before. As the intensity of youth fades and your life experience expands, other things come into focus that also demand some time and so you can't be as exclusive as you once were. That doesn't mean you care any less, it just means that you care about more items and so the time spent on any one is diminished.
On special occasions, the fire of youth returns and you have to be there again, usually because you believe it means so much for the club and that you can make a difference. Enjoy these occasions and revel in the higher crowds.
It's FOR nights like these that the ground should be larger, not smaller, to accommodate the extra fans that want to be there. We can get back to 50k plus crowds with the occasional 60k plus one here and there if the ground is large enough. If it wasn't for the current economic climate, Tuesday night would have been a 50k+ night easily.
|
Agree with all of this. I'm always of the opinion that if you ever fill your ground it's too small. Let as many woodlice in as possible!
Although thought should be given to where tickets are sold when the crowd is small

I beg to differ.
I had a season ticket throughout most of the '90's and ended up not renewing after 2001 due to the cost - which was a very hard decision to make. I lived in Aldershot from 1997 to 2001 so I used to travel up most home games and when I couldn't make it due to work commitments, I gave it to a family member or a friend who wanted to go.
Now I still can't afford a SC - I'd have one in a heartbeat if I could - but go to as many games as I can and have got my 6 year old son into it too.
Been to the Chelsea (1-2), Fulham (0-0), Arsenal (2-0 FACUP) and going to the Everton game on Tuesday.
So to all you people who say "Go all the time then" etc. it’s not always as easy as that so you can kiss my hairy white arse.
Rant over. Tin hat on!

Cant argue with the lads starting to come back, the ones that went through all that crap before.
Sticking by the team with those low point seasons, just killed a lot of peoples passion for football in general. Just glad to see some coming back now.

That's an important factor too, the wages, the way things have changed of course
It's difficult to get behind today's millionaires compared to when they were earning the same as doctors or bank managers, or less

pics??
i've been to every game this season bar Liverpool, QPR, Arsenal and Stoke and Newcastle away mostly by failed applications but i dont do it to appear uber on here, i dont do it to appear condescending about someones apparent lack of support compared to mine, thats a cu.nts trick and reserved for a minority on here.
I do it because im a fucking idiot with no sense and have only been doing it this season so wanted to do it while i could, i have had to have a think about renewing next season as i lost my job just before Christmas, i am...ill make it work regardless, if i had to starve for a few weeks to afford one then frankly i need to lose weight and some things are more important
Every one has differing circumstances and i would never criticise anyone who couldnt afford to go, what does boil my piss is people who have the money and flash it around watching in the pubs then want to go to the derby games home or away and are offering daft money for tickets, it really fucks me off as i have fuck all but still do it for my sins.
At Blackburn i lost my tickets somewhere in the house so travelled down and bought 2 more on the door, £120 for one game, no one forced me to i did it via stupidity and because i wanted to.
I'll never understand people who turn up expecting us to win as if its the only outcome, football is like a marriage, its hard work at times and if you have chosen the right one it can be wonderful, mines dysfunctional and sometimes an embarrassment but i love it regardless and at the heart of it....everyone does, but dinnit buck her cos shes mine

People don't need an excuse not to go to the match. Fair eonough people on here should be attanding (if they can) but others can go whenever they like.
I was not a regular from 1978 to 1987. I discovered lasses and booze and music. Big deal.
