Re: Crawling out of the woodwork
I think it is frustration more than anything.
We can on occasion, attract crowds of nearly 50,000. See the derby game this season, Liverpool last season etc...
But the rest of the time we're stuck around the 40,000 mark, supporters who turn up every game to watch the team are questioning why thousands (and that is no exaggeration) are only turning up at the SoL once or twice a season.
If gates could just improve to around the level they were when Keane was in charge in 2007/08 where we averaged 43,355 and the ground had many crowds of 45,000+ near the end of that season then I think most people would be satisfied.
It is a cause for concern that no matter what the club seems to do these days that a large percentage of our fanbase still choose not to turn up unless we play Newcastle.

good point - ST for over 30 years, now pick and choose as an exile, with most games online for me. Going to the Everton game, but only if I can break through this coat of hard varnish. Plastic fan me.

I'm not saying 40k is bad mate, in fact I think its brilliant that despite us managing that amount regularly its still viewed as a bad gate by some people! Shows just how big Sunderland is and can be.

Re: Crawling out of the woodwork
I crawled out the woodwork for the Anglo Italian cup tie against Birmingham when we had 5000 thought we were going to get into Europe and still managed to feck that up

Re: Crawling out of the woodwork
Anyone who finds it appropriate to criticise what anyone else is doing with their money and leisure time has a real problem putting their own life into perspective. This is because they are so obsessed with the idea of being the 'loyal' or 'hardcore' football fan that when they do not see the same nonsensical obsession in other people they find it hard to come to terms with.
This is not to say there is anything necessarily problematic with wanting to go to every match (and actually going) and caring very deeply about the results, but it is problematically obsessive if it either negatively affects their own family members or it transfers into absurd and unjustified criticism of other people who choose not to attend every game.

I'm glad it's not you, because anyone who views 35-40k average as poor is an utter mongtard
We are averaging comfortably above our historical average just now, at a time when footy is proportionally more expensive than ever before
I'm still surprised that anyone is surprised that more people want to go to big games....
Why not? Perfectly logical
