Thailand: Phi Phi or Ang Thong Marine Park?

Anyone been to both? Which is best?

Done Phi Phi (canny) about ten years ago but havent done the marine park. Trying to work out which to visit as part of a few weeks dodging about Asia.

Well the inhabited islands of Ang Thong Marine park are Samui, Phangan and Tao.

I have only ever stayed on Samui the last being 2006 and the first 95 and there has been a hell of a change as I have visited over the years - first time it was 150 THB on Chaweng beach and last time 4000 THB a night.

Depends on time of year as well - August etc you have the monsoons on the Andaman side with Phi Phi and weather can be bad in Samui later in the year.

What about the larger Koh Chang on the eastern side of the gulf if it has to be Thailand or as the other poster pointed out are you up for Vietnam etc as you have already been to Thailand?

Depends on what you want but I do not think Thailand has priced itself out of the market - still cheap as chips in many places.

Koh Tao is canny espcially if you're in to scuba. Likewise Phangan if you're into raving.

Nah man, Ive done Samui, Tao and Phang-an to death. Im on about the other 40 odd little islands, where you can go for a day trip from the likes of Samui to do kayaking and that. Also done Chang (amazing beach) and Phi Phi a couple of times.

Got a week in Vietnam (Just doing Hanoi and Halong) as part of the trip.

Tao is a great place. Phangan isnt so great.

Got a week in Vietnam (Just doing Hanoi and Halong) as part of the trip.

You can even do some overnighters on some of the uninhabited islands camping. Think "The Beach" as this is where the book was actually set and not where the film was shot LOL

If I was you then try some of the Vietnam places - I am going to book my Vn trip this weekend I think, Hanoi - Halong - Hue - Hoi An but that will be August.

Having a week on the bevvy in Pattaya with pals for a week in May though as a week of letting off a bit of steam.

I'm off to Lao today - visa run - a necessary nuisance. Will have a couple of days in Vientienne (sp) then back down into Udon to continue clearing up the mess of a recent storm - banana's arl owa the place!!
