    Default Functioning drunks

Alistair Campbell is presenting a programme on BBC later tonight about hidden alcoholics, he was interviewed on breakfast TV earlier and he was quite candid about his problems.
Surely we've all done it, I've been at meetings ratarsed and no fucker's realised it (and often come away with a canny deal )

There's a hell of a difference between bluffing through an afternoon at work after a boozy lunch to needing a bottle of vodka in your drawer just to get through the day.

I once replaced someone who left in a hurry after making a mistake at work. When they cleared out his desk there were about six water bottles full of vodka and no one else in the office had a clue he was drinking through the day.

I thinks it's very common. I meet loads of customers who always stink of drink, regardless of the time of day.

The amount of times in the past that when working away I'd be out on the piss (& more) til the early hours then try to bluff my way through a working day without falling asleep, pretty scary thinking back. Couldn't do it these days (nor would want to).

Is there anything that Campbell has not had/got? He will be claiming ownership rights on Bird Flu soon enough.

I used to do it while at work marra, one time I'd been at Ruperts on Ocean Road , then gone back to the Park Hotel when it closed and stayed on the drink til 8 o clock in the morning when I had to go to work.
I drove to the Team valley went to the bog, had a couple of lines and straight into a meeting with ACAS.
After the meeting I went to the Wagon Team for a pint then back to work.

Depression and problems with booze are usually completely uncorrelated like.
