The bold bit would probably be me, except for .....
There's an election in March. The bars have been shutting (VERY strict) at 11:0 PM. And it goes to 10:0 PM from Thurs 'til late march. Then they close all together for 4 days during the election. Bars, Restaurants, Hotels (Even your own hotel) and even the fucking shops.

Pissed me well-off. Fair enough, it'll be over in about 5 weeks. But any state (And it's only Goa, not India) that treats tourism with such a lack of respect, could be likely to pull the plug whenever they want. Spoke to a few locals about it and all they could say was "Corruptio". I'm stumped as to what it can be gained by this?

We got one lock-in. A shack at the beach. Sitting there with the lights off (the staff were shitting themselves anarl) Just me & wor lass. In the dark, with a bottle of beer in our hands. Just us . Just gave up at 11:30 and went to bed, sick as fuck.

Add to that the yapping howling dogs (every household has at least three - and the hotels are around the house), the stray dags, the fires (All rubbish, household and garden, tends to be burned). So smoky fires on every corner with acrid smoke from damp vegetation. Blaring horns (They use horns all the time instead of indicators and mirrors). Rubbish strewn everywhere, including right behind the shacks on the beach.

Only good points : Cheap beer, good beer, nice people (mainly), great food. And that is it. Hotels tend to be all very ropey anarl.

been a load of times both north and south. North is more of a party place, anjuna, baga, calangut etc. lots of beach parties, old hippys etc but still chilled out as and when you want it to be.

The south is more idyllic, nicer beaches and much quieter. Cavallosim, majorda, benaulim, colva etc. Load of russians about but the fuckers are everywhere now anyway.
Farther south you get Palolem where the start of one the bourn films was set. That was really nice a few years back but i undertsand its been commecialised quite a bit since then. In general the place is great, the people, food, prices etc Lots to do if you venture off the beaten track, but as always its just depends on what you are used to and what you are looking for. People who go to Spain /Greece every year tend to talk about beggers and poverty etc in Goa but its nowt compared to some places ive been. I would go back tomorrow if i could so thats about the best recommedation i can give it.
