    Default Scholes for England?

    Quote:
Harry Redknapp admits he would love to see Paul Scholes pull on an England shirt at this summer's European Championship.

Scholes has not played for England since retiring from international football in 2004 at the age of 29.

The Manchester United midfielder hung up his boots completely last summer but answered an SOS from Sir Alex Ferguson last month and has seamlessly slotted back into the Red Devils' squad as they look to pip bitter local rivals City to the Barclays Premier League title.

Scholes turned down the opportunity to play at the 2010 World Cup when offered the chance by Fabio Capello - a move he later said he regretted.

He may now get a crack at another international tournament with England however, if, as expected Redknapp takes over from the Italian as national coach this summer.

"Let's be honest, you'd love to have Paul Scholes in the Euros this year," the Tottenham boss said.

"He'd be in your team, he's that good. You'd love him to play. He plays like a Spaniard, he can play like (Barcelona's) Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta. He doesn't give the ball away.
    "
    What do the SMBers think?

Backward step playing a 36yo or f*ck it, if it helps the team play him

Backward step for me, give youth a chance but mebbes that's because I don't get too worked up over England.

As long as Paul Scholes is alive and walking he should be in the England squad.

Scholes has been a brilliant player for many years, England international now... ... ... not for me, not saying he's not as good as some that will be picked, just that we should be looking to the future not the past.

Backward step. I think we should drop a load of the older lads, including Gerrard, Lampard and Terry.

We're not going to win it, so we might as well introduce the youth and play with some spirit.

england missed their chance years ago. Shunting him out to the left wing when he was in his prime to accomodate gerrard and partiularly lampard was a disgrace and sums england up to a tee

play your best team. Scholes would be part of that for me. The likes of Terry and co are nowhere near but that doesn't stop the England manager picking them which is where, imo, England go wrong.

This for me as well. If we could him in as part of the coaching team then that would be brilliant, but really we should be getting the younger kids involved as much as possible.

Nope, same reason why I thought asking Carragher back was a bad decision.

Was never no real fuss made at the time because he had been pretty poor for England for a few year, lets all not rewrite history and pretend he was playing out of his skin
