Default 4th best defence in the league

24 conceded after 23 games, not conceded more than 2 in a game all season or lost by more than one. That's despite us struggling to put out a consistent back 5 all season and often having to play midfielders out of position.

Great effort by the team but I don't think we get the credit we deserve for that. Don't recall us being praised in the media or by opposition fans. In fact it's usually the opposite, that our defence is seen as a soft touch with some of our players seen as laughing stocks, particularly O'Shea, Brown and Bramble.

About time they got some recognition.

Do you think Tony Pulis is lurking here to decide his tactics?

I work with Liverpool, Man Utd, Blackburn, Leeds, Arsenal and Ipswich fans. Not a single one of them realised how good our defense had been until I pointed it out to them. They all thought we must have been getting spanked for Bruce to get the sack. They didn't realise the problem was scoring goals rather than conceding them.

For all of Bruce's faults, he did leave us with a well organised defence where players could be swapped out, but still performed well.

    BRUCE IN!!!!!

    not sure.

Under Bruce. totally conservative, 11 men back, dont over commit.patient build up. very negative - and so let in few goals

Under MON - tactically conservative (more savvy counter attacking). not everybody back for corners, commit to attck early and often, but still set up to defend and well organised. - and weve let in even less goals, but with better results.

    Nous > Negativity.

tbf we scored a fair amount unde bruce too, we still have a positive goal difference when he left. the problem was winning games .... or more accurately, losing them
