Default Notts County . vs Sunderland '73

How many of the smbers were at that that game?

I went with my brother - iirc itwas our first away game without parental company - out alone in the big bad world.

My brother , who is normally not over effusive ran on the pitch after Monty's last minute penalty save and got chucked back by the Nottingham Constabulary. We were just behind the right post when he made the save - the start of something big.

Monty didn't save a penalty that day.

In minute 89 - our hearts nearly failed - iirc monty dived to his right - about 4 yards in front of me and saved it - hence the jubilant scenes.

It was the only game that I missed in the cup run that year.

You got lucky then - you saw the final.

I missed the Reading replay - tuesday night game - (3 sunderland fans were killed in a car accident returning from the game iirc). I was in London with the school for the Luton game and although we had loads of vouchers between my brother and I we only got one ticket for the final - which we gave to our dad.

Better start saving though for this year.

Yep I've seen that and I was amazed it wasn't mentioned - the guy that's written has a gap in his memory - or he wasn't there. It was the main thing I remember about the game and how a 100 or so lads ran onto the pitch to mob Monty.

I was behind the goal where Dave Watson headed in, I remember Joe Bolton suffering a head injury and having a sticking plaster flying around in his afro but I can't recall a penalty.

I did get lucky and as I have said (many a time!) on here it was one of 6 times that I have see us play at Wembley - I dont know anybody else that has.

The tuesday night game against Reading was brilliant with Charlie Hurley coming out of the ground after the game and almost joining in the celebrations!

Thanks. I thought that Altzheimers had set in. I do remember Joe Bolton talking to the fans at the side of the pitch during the warm up and Watson heading the equaliser after being thrown up front towards the end. Guthrie & Halom were yet to come
