It was mate. We used to go every Sunday morning, my sister, parents and me. Then down to the docks to buy crabs for the Sunday tea.

I take the kids to the speenymoor leisure pool when I'm up north..

the yenjoy it although the waves seem git tiny these days

used to love Whitley bay pool .. always had fun back in the day as part of the club trip

I ws happy with Bishop Pool.. 33 1/3 meter pool 12 foot deep at the divign board end

used to love diving off the 5 meter board.. standing at the top for half an hour plucking up the courage.

they never make 33 meter pools any more.. it was deriguer in the 60's 70's

Luckily enough my eldest daughter experienced the wave machine, but my youngest never will. had to take her to Waves through Tynemouth the other day to sample a wave machine!

Yes it is an eyesore but didnt look too bad iirc when it was in amongst all the car parks and that what were there at the time....it should have closed as the maintenence and repair costs were too much, it should have relocated elsewhere within the town. Ice rink, fun pool, slides and playpark, who wouldn't be interested in things like that eh ??

    I hated it.

Didn't learn to swim til I was 27, so when I was a kid I'd be having a lovely time plodging around and then the waves would come. I'd have to sit on the side waiting for them to stop.

    The wavy shits.

Yeah, it's still there, I took the kids there only yesterday. Must have been over 20 years since I was last there, it hadn't changed a bit. They didn't put the waves on though and the slide wasn't on either

I used to go there all the time. Vaguely remember trying to look cool, bombing around the rink while miming along to "I am the music man...".
