Default Canny free security app for Android

By Avast, review here, market here.

    Does all the usual antivirus/firewall/stealth mode/SIM change detection/remote location/remote control/loss protection/etc.

    Looks very good.

If it has the impact it does on the start up of my computer then it will be like going back to 1994 on your mobile.

If it was just an antivirus, aye that would be the case. But that's just a small part of what it does. The most important bit (imho) is the ability to find out where it is, and access it (and possibly FTF it) if you lose it. Closely followed by the ability to control what apps are allowed network access depending on whether you're on wifi or 3G.
