Should Sunderland/Newcastle/Mboro be doing more to help the smaller teams in the region?

the money needed to keep the likes of darlington afloat must be tiny..is there nothing that could be done to see the 3 larger teams aiding the smaller ones..even with players..why not use them to give young lads a run out? I am sure reserve football is ok but competative matches must be better?

or are there FA rules in place to stop this from happening

Its a surprise that we havent got more of a fixed relationship in place with a local lower league team where we guarantee a number of loanees each season.

I am fairly ambivalent about lower league teams going to the wall though.

Apparently the overheads on the stadium are costing thousands alone.

Nice idea, though if we were to adopt a club I'd rather it be Durham

The way it looks, to be honest, the only way to save Darlo will be for it to be rolled up and somebody to start FC Darlington (or whatever) in the lower leagues. Even giving them the money to pay their bills now would only be delaying the inevitable, as long as they've got that stupid stadium they'll always be one bad day away from bankrupt.

Better to let the thing fold and start again imo. It does always surprise me that we don't have a standing relationship with one of the local sides though, although I'd imagine it'd be Hartlepool rather than Darlo, surely we've got lads in the reserves who'd benefit from League 1 football. I guess it'll all be at boardroom level where it has to be sorted, perhaps personalities and other business relationships have meant it's never come off yet.

Sure it was quoted as being £400K needed to get them to the end of the season.
