Agree with that but to be honest, sometimes the joy of getting out on my bike is getting lost somewhere and finding new routes back rather than just looking at avg/mph etc. The 500 is fine for me and the price was in range, does the job fine.
You could of course just strap your car sat nav to the handle bars and be done with it.
I seem to spend more tome cycling across fields and throwing my bike over hedges/gates than I do on the road sometimes. I fully expect getting chased by an irate landowner with a gun at some point
