The 705 I've got, whilst giving the mapping and routing (I use opensource maps rather than paying) isn't really all that brilliant for guided rides.

Build a course on bikeroutetoaster and upload it and it's fine for guiding, but if you make a turn different do the route then the thing can't recalculate on the fly, it just runs out of memory and grinds to a halt, meaning you have to go back to the menu and restart, it'll then calculate from your current position!

Maybe it's because I've used it for routing in central London and there's squillions of roads, or on trail, bridleways and permissive routes where there's no obvious alternative ... but it's a bit weak.

Unless you are using HRM and power meters, I dont think the bike specific Garmins are worth the money, better to use a general purpose one like this... (you can get bike mounts)

This is the pack I bought, great bit of kit.

I have bought a car satnav from them before, no probs and know a lad who bought 500 from them, again no bother...I understand though why people like to be sure of a supplier( Evans etc) as, like most people have bad experiences in the past with various on line retailers when something goes wrong .

Btw as a Andy Schleck "fan" I thought you might like this

Agree with that but to be honest, sometimes the joy of getting out on my bike is getting lost somewhere and finding new routes back rather than just looking at avg/mph etc. The 500 is fine for me and the price was in range, does the job fine.

You could of course just strap your car sat nav to the handle bars and be done with it.
