Default Economy and impact on your job

Just wondering how it has impacted on peoples jobs. I work in sales and have got to say I've never known it as hard as it is. Offers available are incredible and yet companies are turning their noses up at them, buying is extremely conservative at best. That said, I'm doing well albeit working stupidly hard for small wins!

Any good news out there or just the doom and gloom that the media enjoy serving up?

First rise in 4 yr last week. Busiest first two quarters for 4 year, people and companies have become used to the media doom and gloom and are just cracking on now.

Work in healthcare and it's hell on Earth, no pay rises or increments for a few years and obviously extra 3.5% going out in contributions soon.

As for the job we were already understaffed and busy, retirees and leavers aren't being replaced and jobs are being deskilled with cheaper healthcare assistants replacing qualified nurses.

Main problem is budgets for everything else slashed which affects funding and moving people into suitable placements so they end up stuck in hospital.

We have a pipeline of work for the next few months. It could (and most likely will) go badly wrong after this since I just can't see any sales being closed. Paying as much off the mortgage as possible while I can.

I took voluntary redundancy late last year from a job that paid a canny wage (I would probably have got laid off anyhow). Nee additional benefits (pension etc).

Got another job nee bother in February when I started looking for one. Shite wages but plenty of other benefits (pension etc).

1st job I worked for a private company that relied on contracts from public bodies to deliver services to the public. 2nd job just private company selling to the public.

Thankful I've got skills/qualifications/profession that are/is useful when times are good and bad tbh.

Glad I don't work in construction like. Probably the most fucked over of any industry atm.

The oil industry hasnt really been effected yet but its coming. A cold winter will probably keep the price of oil strong for another 3 months or so but after that who knows.

I work in sales, to be honest sales is pretty much recession proof, yes the volume goes down so you have to work harder to make the same money by take a look at the job websites, sales departments all over the world still hiring.

Took VR in Jan after surviving several rounds of redundancy & years without a payrise despite the company constantly telling us of the obscene profits it was making as I just couldn't stand it any more. Had 6 months out just doing voluntary work then went back to contracting making the same sort of money but with half the hours & responsibility & not being on-call when not at work.
