Watched recorded MOTD , and especially MG Pedersons astounding corner kick....asked about it Mary Poppins and Hanson implied that maybe Yakubu had touched it before...while stationary.
FACT; The ball must travel it's own circumference before it is deemed in play from a dead ball situation (23 inches if I recall correctly), making absolute nonesense of their comments or even doubts...and that's from ex-professional players...makes you think doesn't it?

Assuming you mean pundits.

Did you know the rule before looking it up? Come on be honest, the only one who comes out of that decision badly is the referee and the assistant referee who should know the rules like the back of their hand!

If you go back in my history on here about 6 years ago...I got ridiculed for the ball over the line rule as most did not know that if you looked down from above and even 1 cm was touching the line line or your view of the line, then it was technically still in play...
Yes, of course I knew the rule...we all did as kids as were taught them...same applies the the tolerance on one handed throw ins- both feet on the ground and ball behind the head that they gat away with.

You say that but it applies to a kick off too. Plus the ball must go forwards. How many times have you seen it kicked 2 inches backwards and that passes as a kick off? About every time these days.

Refs just do not care about the finer points anymore. Such as corners which are generally placed outside of the quadrant.

According to LOAF the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves.

Distance is no longer specified.

Nevertheless, in this case I don't think Yakubu even touched the ball, never mind moved it, therefore the ref should have blown and ordered a free kick to Wigan from the place where Pedersen touched the ball a second time. IMHO.

From a kick off the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forwards.

But they kick it back more times than forwards, have you not seen this?

When he "took" the corner the ref had his back to him and was running into the penalty area so he could not have seen what went on anyway.
