Middlesbrough have a population of 140,000 about half that of Sunderland. Catchment area wise they have no where the population to call upon than that of the greater Sunderland area. Also they have Hartlepool and Darlington in their immediate neighbouhood.
As someone who attended Roker Park in 1972 V Swindon in front of a 7000 crowd and previous to that in 1970 (in the top flight) at Roker V Tottenham in front of a 13,000 crowd I have learnt to never gloat over attendences.

Doesn't help that unemployment in Boro is massively high now.

if ever a boro team deserves support, it's this one. Mowbray's building a good team at the Riverside.

It's their last year with the parachute payments from their relegation this season. If they don't come back up this season then they'll be down there for 10 more years.

Valid and often mentioned point, but Teeside has a population of 365,000. Stretch it a bit further to include Hartlepool, Eaglescliffe and Yarm, and you have a catchment area of nearly 500,000. Should be able to get a decent crowd out of that lot.

Corect. Gibson is no longer bankroling them, and if they're staying within their means, they're a relative medium-sized fish in the Championship.

Shame. I'd like to see them promoted and in the PL. I have no truck with Middlesbrough.

But they hate us, which means when we beat them it's really funny, because they hate it and we treat as any other win, which pisses the smoggy twats off more
