We were crushed. Feet werent even touching the ground and we HAD to get onto the pitch or we would have been fucked. We had police and officials telling us to get back into the stand and everyone was becoming more and more frustrated, a york executive took a smack iirc. Ok once on the pitch some were a bit high spirited but it was never a riot

that was decent but small time compared to the mid 70's game. at least double the numbers and with that much going on around sometimes forgot there was a match being played. as it happens there wasn't much violence/resistance and the police had just given up anyway. it was uncontrollable.
checked the youtube video and i think i recognise one of the lads in the last b&w still photo. might be wrong but it could be a young looking A** who used to travel with the shields branch sometimes.
