Default Sleep Paralysis - bloody weird sensation!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

anyone ever had this recently? I did last night!

I'd come downstairs last night as couldn't kip so fell asleep on settee. It's a weird sensation as you honestly feel like someone is on your back holding you down and you can't move! I even tried to shout but couldn't as I felt muffled. It happened a couple of years ago too and lasted longer. This time I didn't know exactly when I was asleep or awake but I made myself shut my eyes to chill and then woke myself up properly real quick.

it's bloody scary at the time as you feel a presence yet feel helpless all due to the paralysis!

    Bruce out!

    Quote:
Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis. When it occurs upon awakening, the person becomes aware before the REM cycle is complete, and it is called hypnopompic or postdormital. The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes, with some rare cases being hours, "by which the individual may experience panic symptoms". As the correlation with REM sleep suggests, the paralysis is not entirely complete; use of EOG traces shows that eye movement is still possible during such episodes.] When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP).

In addition, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.[8] The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful or dream-like objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.

Had it a couple of times both after a heavy drinking night out, it's horrible like I was hallucinating and had Harry Hill playing a banjo on me bed.

Only used to get it after heavy sessions like holidays in Magaluf, Ibiza or weekends away and I would already be sick of my life and on a massive come down. Add this on top and I was fearing for my life.

Get it shit loads. Its the easiest way to get into a lucid dream aswell. This morning I went into it but when I realised I was dreaming in my dream, I woke up. Need to master it
