Wonder if Mick with SB's financial backing might have been a better manager...

swap ball and sbragia around. even though sbragia had us depressed, he still managed back to back wins, which saw us score 4 goals in each game

Maybe. But with the money Mick did get, he spent most of it on Gray and Stead. Tommy Miller got more goals than those two comined that season.
Other signings just didn't seem to work out for us for some reason. Stubbs still had something to offer, but just didn't fit right with us and Basilla was a beats in France, yet didn't seem to settle here. Plus Murphy was pretyt much thrown into the Premier League from the Irish backwater pub league or something. If he had been with us a year earlier and got a lot of Championship games under him, he'd've done more that season in the Premier League. Maybe not enough to stay up, but reach at least 20 points!

I had it the other way simply because Sbragia was stressful, nervy end of season relegation battle. Bally was just fun since we knew where we were going and just enjoying watching the football other teams were playing!

But he had nowt to spend in the first place. Never could have even dreamed of signing the likes Keane and Bruce did. Instead he got pennies to spend on lower division strugglers -- which worked fine in the lower divisions.
I remember thinking after his first game that we'd unearthed a gem in Basilla, but he turned out shite.

He spent a bit, despite coming out and saying he didn't have any money. He bought something like 12 players, put many of them in the first team and ruined a winning team. The guy was and is a nob head and I was gutted when I heard we'd hired him, even though I knew a lot of the fans would be pleased.

Yeah he had pretty much nowt to spend, but did spend over £4 million, probably over £5 million depending on Basiila, but nearly £3 million went on Gray and Stead. We may have only been able to afford crap, but surely there was better out there that could scrape even 5 goals between them!?!
And Bruce doesn't seem to have had as much money as Keane, especially in wage budget. Mainly since I don't recallt how much money Keane made on sales, where Bruce has made a penny or two.

It wasn't fun, but it was incredible. Just couldn't beleive what I saw...a definate game of two halves. Seeing Chopra come on the pitch, walk past the midfield, walk to the defence who ignored him...freekick straight to him - goal.

Re: Best Manager of recent times?
There's a good few on here with short memories.
