Default Government haven't got a clue about web

it'll be a full time job to block these sites and then there's a ton of search sites, and if google block them people MAY move to another search engine loosing google money.

The government is to put pressure on Google to block illicit filesharing websites from its search results as part of fresh attempts to combat online piracy.

Google will on Wednesday face calls from the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to "make life more difficult" for sites that infringe copyright.

Hunt is expected to tell an audience of media executives that internet companies, advertisers and credit card firms should do more to clamp down on alleged rogue websites.

Their strategy is one of the only ones that stands a chance of some success though, surely? Make life more difficult for pirates while making legal content cheaper and easier to access?

They'll never eradicate piracy completely, so it's damage limitation.

there'll be a riot if they ban / cut the net as thats the only way they can impose there daft policys on net.

virgin has the best policy where its says theres the net and you do with it what you want but if you get caught its nowt to do with us. as if they start blocking this and not the other, it opens a legal mine field of what to block & not BIG BROTHER

when its world wide its very hard as you need to get everyone round the same table table and everyone agrees, that'll cost money to arrange & some won't agree as it will cost them money.

if they block sites here I could just get a vpn to usa to view that site, ok joe blogs might not know about newsgroups & vpn's so it may affect some but if its free people will find a way

Sticking their fingers in the dyke. IT 'experts' are far behind the curve.

Exactly, but for every one who would go the VPN route, another nine wouldn't bother. Making piracy more difficult is their only real hope - as you say, they can't eliminate it.

and say 5 out of 9 stop there net as they can't download music/vids, that'll cost isp's money. then if 1 isp out the tons out there say's no to blocking sites, the other ips's will say thats not fair as they will get our custom so it will be a big NO

Young'uns are getting more intelligent with technology and making use of the web whilst politicians sit behind a desk frantically drawing up plans to stop things like piracy. There's a reason the riots were organised over BB messenger. If they block one route, another route will open. They've attempted to track facebook use so folk have moved onto BBM when organising things that shouldn't be disclosed.
