Default Skunks By Name/ Skunks By Nature

Just found out that Newcastle has 3 areas that are classed in the 100 most deprived areas in the UK - http://www.viral.info/engdep/IOD100.html

    Sunderland has 1.

Though, we'll not mention the smoggies.

So before they put in there excuses as being the larger city, kop this -

Sunderland city had a population of 280,807 at the time of the 2001 census

Newcastle had a population of 259,000 at the time of the 2001 census.

Sunderland - Co. Durham - Gods own country

Ah, but it's Newcastle-Gateshead these days.

(It will be if they get the chance.)

Sunderland the actual city has a population of circa 177,000. The 280,000+ you mention includes the likes of Washington - unless that's what you meant by Sunderland city..

If its as simple as that (which it isn't) then....why do we get more fans?

seriously, when it comes to comparing deprivation or population statistics it's time to step away from the computer. Even attendance threads are better than that

Like I said in my first post, it depends how the word 'city' is defined. If we're talking just the actual cities, excluding the surrounding areas, then Newcastle is far bigger than and has a greater population than Sunderland - anyone can tell that by simply driving round the two.

You can even tell the huge difference in size by looking at a map. From Blaydon in the west to Wallsend in the east, it's a lot further than say Castletown to Roker in Sunderland.

    Exactly

And if you click on any of the areas there's about 10 streets worth of houses. Would be interesting to see the criteria. I know Liverpool is rough but it makes up half of the entries on that list...
