We would have hoped to have sold out the first home game against anyone and the derby is a guaranteed sell-out, so in effect we've lost out on the money from one of the games we would sell out for.
Added to that Sky haven't picked it this year - another bit of revenue we have been guaranteed over the last few years. Before you say 'we will still be shown same amount of times anyway', if you look at the amount times we are on the telly on the current sky calendar i'd guess we will be shown something close to the minimum they 'have to' contractually.
It's certainly interesting having it as the first home game but it might have cost the club a few bob too.

Whether it is on tv or not deosn't matter commerically, as everyone gets the same amount of money from sky, unless they pick extra games, which then the clubs get 500k match.
