It's been giving him jip for ages though. How is this the first scan to locate a serious problem?

correct me if im wrong, but sounds like a stress fracture, which isnt too uncommon in young sportsman whose bodies are still developing, as they can't handle the stress of the workload put upon themselves by playing in an high intensity sport.
