is he? We're talking about a lad at the peak of his career looking to make a big move, its not surprising that he doesnt want to commit to a 4 year contract (which would keep him until he's 30 and unable to command as high a salary) for less than he is currently on- I wouldn't change jobs for a pay cut either. In fact, it is even intimated that he might be prepared to take a pay cut if it meant playing for a side that he thinks might give him the opportunity to compete at the highest level, which is quite admirable if true. I don't see anything that suggests he is particularly greedy, just that if he is going to be brought into a club that doesnt look likely to challenge for the european places, it would have to really make sense for him financially and certainly not involve a wage cut, don't see any problem with that myself

We also live in a world when Ashely Cole felt sick and though Arsenal were taking the piss with their 55k offer. Years ago.

There is literally nothing in there for Barnetta at all, it's all about Newcastle's benefit.

It smacks of something a bit more sinister to me tbh, it smacks of "we dont want to spend any money but the fans are getting pissed off- lets pretend that we want to bring in a good player who wouldnt come cheap, but lets make an unattractive offer to him so that we can turn round and say 'we tried, but it didn't work out'". They probably knew from the start that they werent getting him

Similar to the N'Zogbia last-ditch bid in the January window.
