Re: player valuation
the reason that a players value drops when they near their contract is because they will be available on a free i a years time or whatever, but if you need that player now, it has no bearing on the transfer for the club involved. Also, that value changes the moment the player signs a new contract so it is not that relevant really. If you have two very similar players but one has a year remaining and another has three remaining, you may be able to get the former for less money, but when is all said and done, they will be worth the same after they sign.
So although Nzogbia's valuation should drop because he is nearing the end of his contract, if the selling club is not prepared to drop the price and will only entertain full market value, then we should go for him anyway. if he had four years on his contract and we could get him for £10 million we would all be saying what a great deal it is for the club.
