    IMO he was only ever a leader to get labour clear of the disaster that was Brown, he will never compete as leader in a GE.

    his brother will be the leader at the next GE

    Aye but what Im saying is every Labour leader in history has had pretty significant union support, while consistently not being 'in their pockets'. Doesnt necessarily stunt their popularity or stop them from being elected.

    As I recall it was very close so it may have been a single union who decided to swing it, but I take your point!
