Default Ipad/Tablet question for a pleb

If I bought one (yes they are shit/great (delete as appropriate)), do you sign up to a service provider?

Or do they just connect to any WiFi networks available to you like a laptop would?

    Depends on which you buy.

Get a wifi only iPad and it'll hook up to available wifi networks, get a 3G and as well as the wifi you pay for a month to month service (or at least I do).

I changed my plan after one month as I didn't download as much data as I thought I would. I wouldn't bother signing an annual contract.

Prepaid Sims from three are widely considered the best bet on here ....

I tether mine to my iPhone on O2 but I'm going to review that next month and might switch to the prepaid option if not using the data allowance

How do you find the iPad performs using the iPhones signal whilst tethering ?

    Sorry to hijack thread.

I got the ipad2 without 3G as I only need to connect to WiFi. I bought a wireless router and away I go :) All my m8's have iphones so i just use the facetime feature and get all my calls free, it's great.

    Cheers.

That's a canny saving not buying the 3G one and then not having to pay a monthly subsciption to networks !
