never used them but have travelled all over this part of europe by train - great way to see europe. however, plan your route first as it may be cheaper to buy individual tickets at the various stations

I just booked all my tickets up for going to Morrocco by train and Rome via Zurich using this site.
Lots of great advice on all things train, advice on rail passes too.
All my tickets are for one adult and one youth as in Spain you are a youth at 25. Made me feel a bit creepy.

Different countries sell tickets over different windows of time but if you want to go this summer book now.

Are you planning on travelling around several countries? If so then I think the InterRail Passes are a great way to do it. Did a couple of trips using these many years ago and loved the flexibility of it all. Not sure how it works now but all you did then was write in your next destination and get it stamped at the ticket office. Great way to meet people and if you plan things a bit it can save you hotel bills by booking overnight journeys from one country to another. If you don't like a place you just move on to somewhere else. No need to just make the best of things because you're stuck there for a fortnight.

do what cat says and have a look at Seat61 (eurail guide) - I've used it for train travel in other parts of the world and it's been absolutely spot on.

Have bought InterRail tickets before for Italy. Was about £60 for three train journeys. Just had to have ID at the train station & pay about €10 euro for a seat reservation.
Ticket arrives two days after buying it. Recommend.
