Sky just gave me HD upgrade for nowt

They must have a pile of hd boxes to get rid of! I called up to cancel cause I changed my direct debit date due to job change but they took the cash on the old date. I called up and said I want to cancel, they gave back the monthly fee and gave me HD and installation for free and will move the sky+ into another room as already have multiroom and gave me sky talk and broadband for £7 per month. Get in there quick if you want one

Their standard offer on the website at the weekend for any existing customers was free box upgrade and installation and 3 (or 6?) months free HD subscription, normally about £10/month. On the face of it it doesn't sound like they've done you any big favours

A couple of months ago they rang us up asking if we wanted to upgrade to HD and after we basically said we didn't want to pay for anything, they said that they couldn't give it away for free but they'd credit our account with enough money for the year. So basically we have upgraded to Sky HD without paying anything at all for a year.

If you were to threaten to cancel and they then off you sky world half price for six months are you obliged to keep it for a year minimum or can you downgrade your package after six months?

I phoned em up lasst to cancel cos got offered a canny deal with virgin media, but they persuaded me to stay by giving me a multiroom box and free HD pack on both boxes for a year.

The bonus is I cancelled all sky sports last month and it went off on sunday but when I got me new card through the post the sports channels are working on the new card.

Best thing I ever did was getting rid of Sky. 6 months on, the missus is well into using the catchup TV stations on the Revo, I've got access to a load of HD film and TV content and I get to watch all the Sunderland games.

I've already made my money back on the hardware!

Its pretty good of them to upgrade but watch out they don't give you an a-grade repaired/reconditioned box. They have a distinct habit of lasting just over 12 months before they break.
