Taking up golf

Getting itchy feet and am thinking about taking up a new hobby and going golfing with the father-in-law. Any SMB'ers taken up golf and how did you find it? I suppose I'm paranoid about being completely shit and holding up a group of impatient doctors and retired management consultants while I piss about taking 20 shots and hacking up the turf. Also what is the going rate for the required equipment to kit out an aspiring golfer?

Took up last year, love it. But can I feck drive in a straight line. Love it though

I took it up a few years ago and gave in..but have been thinking of getting me golf bats out the loft and taking it up again. It's addictive as fuck when you start pinging some nice straight shots. But I found it hard to do it on a consistent level. Which in turn frustrated the fuck out of me as I felt I was nt doing anything different. I reckon take lessons to iron out bad habits before they set in

Love it me, golfing holiday in August coming up.

Get yasel down to the cocken lodge near Rainton, class little driving range and 9-holer for practice.

what type of shaft is your driver then, stiff/regular?
you need high club head speed for a stiff shafted driver, have you tried an offset regular shafted driver

I was a complete - golf was a good walk spoilt/for daft jumper wearing wankers etc etc.

took it up two years ago (I'm 49 now) and it is an unbelievably great game.

If anybody could recreate a video game that could get anywhere near the difficulty of golf they would make millions.

Don't worry about holding people up. Everybody started somewhere and your father in law will keep you right.

take a few lessons early on (it pays off big time getting the right stance etc)

just have a go. i am now looking forward to my retirement, hitting a small ball with a stick across a field.

Just do it mate.
